Trouble With GT6 S-5 Mission Race, Who Me?

I've read some horror stories on the interwebatron about the final mission race for the Super License in GT6. This race puts you in some car and you hot lap the 'Ring with an asshole chasing you. I got 14 seconds inside of Gold on my first very sloppy try.
